Connecting Essay 2
Connecting Essay 2
This photograph shows a sense of distance and depth which creates a sense of journey. The narrowing of the path helps to emphasise the distance because it gives you the view of what a person would have looking into the distance. I feel that the bushy trees arching over the path show that there is a difference in light and location, maybe even creating a sense of darkness.

I feel that the bushy trees arching over the path show that there is a difference in light and location, maybe even creating a sense of darkness.
This photo below, which I took, also shows journey through the use of a path. You can see the very clear difference in the width of the path as it goes into the distance. Alongside the path, the difference in light also create a sense of journey because of the transition in the light moving out of the dark and into the light. Also, you can case the road signs alongside the road which also creates a sense of journey because you often associate signs and traffic with a journey.
Both of these pictures demonstrate journey with the use of a path and the depth which create distance. I think they are also different to each other because the first one sourced from the Internet, shows a journey into a natural location because of the forestry arching the path. Where as the latter photograph shows journey in a more man made location because of the road and the traffic signs alongside the path. I also think the light differences show journey because the sense of moving into a dark place to a lighter place.

Connecting Essay 1
Connecting Essay 1
This photograph above portrays reflection and the reflection is in a puddle. The photo is in black and white which emphasises the lighter and darker parts of the image. There is also contrast within this image in the sense that the puddle is on a man made surface but the reflection in the puddle is a natural object. I feel that this reflection portrays a sense of height because you can see the clods around the tip of the tree.
This is a photo which I took and I feel that it shows reflection. The reflection shown in the image is reflecting in a puddle and is part of a silhouette of a human. The puddle shows both light and dark areas and the reflections are very dark which emphasises the shape. To some extent, it could be argued that it shows the contrast between the wet puddle and the dry surface surrounding it.
Both of these photographs show reflection and both through the use of a puddle. The first photograph shows a more detailed reflection of the tree whilst the latter photograph shows a simplistic silhouette of a human. I feel that they a both very different images although they have the same concept. The first is a more dull and gloomy image because it is all in black and white and the only light area in the photograph is the reflection of the clouds. In contrast, the second image shows a more wider spectrum of light and dark because it has very dark areas but very light areas also. It also is a ,ore lighter colour, not as dull as the black and white photo. Overall I feel that both of these photographs use similar concepts to show reflection within an image effectively.

Work Diary- Walk 1
Evaluation
In today's session we went on a group walk and the task was to take photographs which portrayed a journey and autumn colours. The autumn colours was quite easy to capture because on the walk there were many trees and lees which showed autumn colours. The sense of journey was a bit more difficult because it was a bit more conceptual and you had to think about it a bit more. Nethertheless I managed to capture a wide range of photographs throughout the walk.
This photo is my favourite for autumn colours because I really like the blue sky throughout the background but I like the shadows which are created by the trees. I also like how the first tree is showing the autumn colours more than the others leading into the background.
I feel that this picture shows a sense of journey because there is a great sense of distance created. In addition, I like how in the foreground it is lighter but gradually gets darker which I feel helps create a sense of journey.
Progression
I would want to explore journey and autumn colours further and try and capture the topics in different ways. For autumn colours I would like to try and focus on landscapes rather than just leaves because I feel after a while they become quite boring. For journey I would like to focus on the items that people associate with a journey such as a bag but also the different things you pass on a journey such as signs and traffic lights.
